Epcot Vice President Jim MacPhee said Thursday that the time has come to remove the Mickey Mouse arm, glove and wand that have served as a colorful, lighted Epcot sign — and as a lightning rod for criticism from many longtime Epcot fans.

This morning the Magic Kingdom will be holding a special event where 1000 immigrants will be inaugurated as American Citizens. Senator Mel Martinez will be attending and Gloria Estefan will be performing the National Anthem. The program is scheduled to conclude with an F-15 flyover of Cinderella’s castle.

Ellen Molhern is the first winner who will be spending a night in the Cinderella Castle bedroom suite. ellen is actually a Disney employee who works at the companies Vero Beach Property. She won as part of the “Backstage Magic” which is the “year of a million dreams” prizes that are open only to cast members.

Disney may have fallen off the wagon, but now it’s ready to get back on the scale. Sending a powerful message that it won’t condone the epidemic of childhood obesity under its watch, Disney has announced strict dietary guidelines for licensed food products and promotions that bear the Disney name.

 

Effective immediately in the U.S., with a more gradual implementation overseas, new deals for Disney licensed foodstuffs will have to adhere to capped levels of calories, fat, and sugar. Disney will still allow seasonal candy and birthday cakes to top its new dietary guidelines, but it plans to scale back on those licenses.

This past Sunday the Disney Year of a Million Dreams promotion started. The event will be filled with great prizes and opportunities for visitors at the Disney Parks and Hotels. According to the Hollywood Reporter says that the next Disney ride making it’s way to the big screen will be The Jungle Cruise. The screenplay will be written by the writers of Smallville Al Go and Miles Miller. It will be a modern film set in present day.

Disney’s smash hit Dead Man’s Chest is scheduled to be released in December of 2006 however you can pre-order you copy Amazon.com today!

The Disney Wonder Cruise ship will be getting an update this fall after spending 2 weeks in dry dock. Here’s a list of some of the updates being performed:

• Extension to the Mickey pool on deck 9 designed for small children and toddlers who are not toilet trained

   

• The Oceanear Lab will be getting new computer simulated ride, that allows children 8-12 to pilot the Disney Cruise Ship

   

• Oceanear Club will be expanding the Captains closet play and dress up area with a Peter Pan Theme

   

• The Goofy Pool will now features poolside movies with a large LED screen showing classic Disney Movies

   

• The Vista Spa and Salon will also be expanded and the fitness center will also increase in size

   

• The Quiet Cove adults only pool we recieve a makeover

   

• In addition the business center conference rooms will get upgrades of equipment and more wifi stations

One of our all time favorite Disney movies and longtime cult classic the Nightmare Before Christmas will be re-released in digital 3-d format. Details and dates have not been officially released yet so stay tuned for more information.
