Disney Finger ScannerDisney has slowly been replacing the two finger biometric scanners with single finger scanners. The machine is not reading fingerprints, what it is doing is measuring the distance between key spots on your finger and comparing them to previous readings. if you match you are allowed in if you don’t match you are sent to guest services to verify your identity.

Part of the problem is the lack of transparency from Disney. These scanners were designed for high security locations. However do to high ticket prices, ticket sharing, ticket resales, and other fraudulent activities Disney uses them at the main gate.

According to Disney the information is retained as long as the ticket has an open valid admission. Once it has been used the data is destroyed within 30 days. The information on the ticket telling what parks you visited and when was always available in the past to ticket holders at guest services.

Many local groups such as the ACLU are protesting saying it is a privacy violation and believe the information is being used for other purposes. Guests may opt out of the finger scan by visiting guest services to verify their identity, however this policy is not advertisied.
